I came to Bath recently, for the first time, on a mini little break before starting at the University part time. I did my research before travelling, and saw Mokoko was highly rated due to its pastries and scenic location right by Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths. I decided to add it to my foodie list, and arrived as the shop opened at 9am, and it was a Monday. I was so earlier the pastries had not been put out on the counter! I had planned to get an Almond Croissant, seeing amazing reviews for this, but overheard that these were not on the menu on that day (something to keep in mind if you're going for a specific item!). I wondered what else was on the menu and was given a list of options, where I picked the Almond Praline Chocolate Pain Suisse. It was a mild morning so I was able to sit outside, looking onto the amazing view of the Abbey - as well as the pastry! Now this was definitely one of the prettiest pastries I have even seen, which was a very positive start. Given the pastries had just been bought out I did almost expect it to be warm, which it was not at all. Nevertheless, I bit into the pain suisse. This was beautiful. The pastry was amazingly crispy and buttery - you can tell they use real butter opposed to margarine (not only by the taste but also by how the pastry comes together when you bite into it). The filling was plentiful, and the nuttiness well balanced with the chocolate. This is one of the best pastries I have ever eaten, made better by the views this place has to offer. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend popping by Mokoko if you're in Bath, and intend on returning myself (hopefully to try the Almond Croissant!)
Popped in for a drink. Ordered a latte and mint hot chocolate with cream. Whilst the hot chocolate was being made, I noticed the server was putting on sprinkles and made a comment about not wanting them as charged extra. The server said they are free. I went on and paid and got the bill and noticed the sprinkles had been charged along with the cream as a joint add-on. The server didn't know that and couldn't find a way to only charge for just one. The seating area upstairs was still full of other people's dishes.
Amazing coffee, can smell it as soon as you walk in the door! Lovely fresh croissants and vegan cake option too 👍🏼
This is my fav spot in Bath !
Coffee is incredibly good and the bakeries are delicious as well.
The place is perfect for study session, although I think they now have a policy of 45 mins max per
Very high quality puff pastry! The lamination is exquisite and I love that they have kept the layers crisp and buttery. The hazelnut/pecan is nearly perfection! My only quibble with the two croissants we got is that the chocolate streak in the hazelnut felt obtrusive and the almond was a little too honey-sweet for my taste. Still well worth a try!
Came here after walking the railway path from Bristol, so we were primed and ready for tea and cake. The cake we had was amazing - not at all dry or stale - and the tea was good quality too. Music wasn't too loud and it was cosy upstairs. Staff were super sweet as well, and re-filled my water bottle for me. Deffo recommend!
The food is real good but the service needs to be improved. The man in front was acting rube.
The products and coffee quality of Mokoko are excellent, with a vast variety of drinks and pastries. We had the pain au chocolate, an earl grey and a latte, all made with love. One of the best parts of Mokoko apart of the food and beverages it offers, is the incredible view of Bath Abbey. Will definitely be visiting again on our next trip to Bath.
